Now a teacher in the Ankeny Community School District, teaching history has always been what I wanted to do. From a young age, I wanted to follow in my grandmother's and mother's footsteps to make an impact as a teacher. I attended a small rural public school where my mother also taught. Being active in my church, community, and anywhere I could be of service was a huge part of my youth.
After high school, I attended community college. I was able to serve in student government where I helped organize community events and outreach, as well as manage the budgeting of the many clubs at the school.
After graduating community college, I moved to Iowa City to begin my training as a teacher. My experience in Iowa City imparted on me the importance of budgeting, hard work, and responsibility. It was during this time that I was also blessed to be introduced to my future wife, Elizabeth, by a mutual friend. No degree I could have earned compares to the blessing meeting her was.
My wife began her career teaching at Southeast Polk High School and I followed her to Ankeny after my graduation. Originally substitute teaching in the metro area, I was soon offered a job teaching part-time history in Ankeny. My first year saw its own struggles -- both in the classroom and with making ends at home meet -- which inspired me to work to help others by running to make a change at the state level in the Iowa House of Representatives that would benefit all those in our community by reducing their tax burden, the inefficiencies in education, and ensuring accountability of myself and other elected representatives.
Living and working in the Ankeny community has opened my eyes to the variety of stories and experiences of the great people living here. I will work to serve you to my fullest ability at the state level and ensure responsible state budgeting and decisions help continue to make Iowa the best place to live in the United States!
Thank you for checking out my page. I am honored to be your state representative and hope you will consider reaching out with your concerns and opinions.
